If you have been following the Stock Market, 2017 has been a banner year. The DOW is up 25%, and there have been 70+ new record highs in the market. On top of that, consumer confidence is at a 17-year high. 2017 has been a very good year for investors.
But what about 2018? Who knows? No matter what the predictions, there is only one thing for certain: 2018 will be a year of uncertainty.
With that in mind, let me give you some “sure-fire” investment strategies for your life:
1. Invest in Foundational Truth. II Timothy 3:16-17 reminds us: “All Scripture is breathed out by God and is profitable …” Every investment must be built on a solid foundation, and the Word of God is the best foundation of all. If you do not believe me, read Jesus’ parable about the “Wise and Foolish Builders” in Matthew 7:24-27. Begin 2018 in God’s Word, and make reading it a habit. Nothing could reap better dividends.
2. Invest in Family and Friends. Give yourself to others. Many times our hurts and our frustrations are because we are caught up in ourselves. If we will give to others, then we can follow the example of Jesus. (Read Philippians 2:1-8 and discover what that means.) Intentionally, pick some people that you want to share with in 2018 and get them on your calendar. Intentional investing is a great way to see your life grow.
3. Invest in your Future. Someone once said, “Only one life twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last!” Jesus put it this way in Matthew 6:19-21, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, … but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven … For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” As we look toward 2018, make sure that you are looking beyond it. Build something into your life this year that will be profitable in Kingdom Building. Find a new way to serve at your place of Worship to make a difference for Christ.
I do not know what 2018 will hold, especially as it relates to the Stock Market. What I do know is that there are fundamental investment principles that outlast the ups and downs of the Market and our Culture. If you will follow these three “investment strategies,” I am confident that 2018 will be a year that reaps great dividends in your life.
