I love Roller Coasters!
In fact, I am one of those people who, right after being is strapped into my seat, lift my hands and am ready for the “ride of my life.” I enjoy the excitement. I enjoy the thrill. I enjoy every turn, twist, up, and down that is all part of the ride.
As I think about it, I guess that I understand that no matter what the ride, the engineers and the designers built the ride to successfully return me to the “station.” I have confidence in their expertise and know that no matter the “thrill,” their skill will take me safely home.
But when it comes to life, I’m not so enamored with the “Roller Coaster.” Life is a series of ups and downs. We go along, climbing a hill, enjoying the view, experiencing Blessings. And then, seemingly without warning, the bottom drops out of our lives. We find ourselves falling at breakneck speed, almost out of control, not knowing when things are going to stop. We are afraid, and, at times, want out and off.
As I thought about these things, I thought about my confidence in the engineers and designers of the Roller Coasters that I enjoy. I am not afraid, because I know that their whole responsibility is to make the ride Successful.
That really is like our God. Two Scriptures come to Mind:
Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He will make straight your paths.
I Corinthians 10:13 – No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Even though we have ups and downs in our lives, God can be trusted to take us through them and help us arrive safely back at the station.
So what do you do when you find yourself in one of those downs? Could I encourage you to look up? Look up and find a God who is in control of all things (Romans 8:28). Look up and discover how God will supply all your need (Philippians 4:19). Look up and know that nothing will ever separate you from God’s Love (Hebrews 13:5-6).
Life is a Roller Coaster; and you and I can have confidence in the Divine Designer and know that He will get us safely home. We can also know that when we find ourselves going down, seemingly out of control, we can look up and discover God’s provision in our lives.
