Early last week, when I went down to my work-out room for my morning exercises, I noticed something very troublesome. The tiles in my work-out room were “squishy.” That was not how they were supposed to be, so I started to investigate. I discovered that I had a leak in my basement.
It was coming from a little room that is under my porch; and when I opened the door, I knew I was in trouble. The carpet – I had just put a piece of “extra” carpet down in that room – was soaked, the shelves that held some of our “treasures” needed to be moved, and there was no easy way to stop the water from continuing to invade our home. I was in for a Battle to keep it from spreading to the whole basement. The Fight was on!
So, what does this have to do with anything other than “Misery Loves Company”? Here is what I discovered – No matter how you prepare, no matter how you plan, there will always be an attack from where you least expect it.
You see, once before we had experienced water in the same area, but I had “fixed” the problem. I was confident in what had been done. I thought that there would be no more “battling water” for me. But I was wrong.
This is a lot like our Spiritual Lives. We read our Bibles, pray, go to church, and really work at keeping ourselves where we need to be. And then it happens. Something leaks, and we are fighting. It comes out of nowhere and surprises us because we had thought we had that struggle solved.
Read Ephesians 6:10-18 and discover how to win your Battles. No matter what happens, I am confident that we can proclaim: “Thanks be unto God who gives us the Victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (I Corinthians 15:20).
